Title: Shadow of the Colossus
System: PS2
Release: Late 2005
Developer: Sony
When discussing this game, it's important to understand the grand scale of the battles. The following image is not just art for the game, it is an actual colossus battle. For every Colossi, you must find a way to climb them, you must then make your way to glowing runes located on one or two points of their bodies. Most often, the hardest part of the battles is discovering just how you can get onto the Colossus.

and now, your character on the same Colossus' sword:

Okay, so enough of the images for now. I'll take some time to explain the various elements of the gameplay.
You begin the game with a sword and a bow with unlimited arrows. The arrows are meant to be used in methods of puzzle solving, not like a game where you're meant to conserve weapons. Basically, the arrows are a tool, not a weapon. The sword you begin, reacts to sunlight and points in the direction of the Colossi you've yet to kill.

Your screen contains a few different icons to indicate different weapons, meters, health, etc.
Below is a picture of the different items on your screen:

On the top left you see the health of the Colossus, to the bottom right, you see your own meters. The pink circle indicates your grip meter. To kill the colossi in the game, you must climb them and find their weak spots, so the grip meter is an important thing to keep an eye on. The red bar indicates your own health, and the item box indicates the weapon you're using at the time.
Throughout the game, you'll fight many different types of colossi. Don't think they're all slow moving land giants. You'll face colossi that crall on all fours, ones the walk like humans, ones that fly, etc. The enemies all require some sort of strategy to defeat, sometimes the strategy is blatently obvious, but often, it can be a bit tricky.
If you enjoy horse riding through seemless environments of huge scale and like the idea of killing creatures thousands of times larger than yourself, you'll love SotC. By the way, if you play this and enjoy it, you would probably enjoy God of War aswell...similar feel but very different game.
Sound: 8/10
Story: 8.5/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Graphics: 8.5/10
Replay: 9.5/10
Overall (not an average): 9.5/10
